The cost of printer ink, toner cartridges and printer paper is an ever growing concern in today’s office. It’s a cost you can’t completely avoid and ways of reducing these costs is always a priority.

There are a number of ways to reduce these costs:
Virtually every printer has the capacity to reduce the amount of printer ink and toner used and more and more machines offer a ‘Duplex’ option, in which both sides of the paper are printed on.
Printer Ink and Toner Cartridges
The largest saving can be made by reducing the amount of printer ink or toner cartridges used. This can be achieved by using the ‘Draft’ setting. This can be found in the properties section of your printer software. By printing selected dots from the full normal printing mode matrix, draft mode give a lighter appearance to text but is perfectly readable for everyday documents. It also increases print speed which makes this setting a double gain.
|Using third party printer ink or toner cartridges|
can dramatically reduce your printing costs.
Money can also be saved by using third party ink cartridges or toner cartridges. Although manufacturers try to deter consumers from using compatible or remanufactured printer ink by adding chips to their cartridges which link them to their machines, most compatible ink and laser toner cartridges now work seamlessly with their printers and produce quality prints.
Further savings can be made by buying High Capacity (XL) versions of ink cartridges, although more expensive than standard capacity printer consumables, the return is greater in the number of extra pages printed.
Printer Paper and Print media
Paper costs will soon spiral if you print a lot of documents. Using Duplex printing will save you up to half your printer paper costs, and by using non-specialist paper and print media for day-today printing will increase these savings dramatically.

For internal documents you can also print more than one page per sheet, for example printing two A5 documents on one A4 page will produce a substantial saving over time, and combining this with duplex printing increases these savings further.
